My recent trip to New York City …
Our goal, 5
people, New York City , 1 ½
days.
Well it started off with me waking up at 3 in the
morning, getting ready and stuff. My friend Denise met me at my house
at around 3:00 and we both left to head for Manassas , where we all
were meeting up. On the way there, not but 5 min after I leave, I get
pulled over for speeding!! I apologize to the officer multiple times
and told him I should have not been going that fast. It worked! I got a
warning, like always haha.
Arriving in Manassas
a lil late, I call Kaylene to tell her I am in the area. She said she
still has to pick up Owura at work, because he is working overtime, no
surprise there. I've never seen someone want to work so damn much!
Denise and I wait in my car for a bit in the Micron parking lot, where
we are supposed to meet them. About 10 min later she arrives with Owura
and we all pack our stuff into the trunk of her shiny 06 Jetta and head
out to pick Mulala up. After picking her up we depart and head for the
metro, where we will use that to get to the greyhound bus building in
DC.
The Bus trip was 4.5 hours long. But it was a deal, $35 for a
round trip! It was comfortable too, to amuse myself and Denise sitting
next to me, we used my ipod and had a TV series marathon, including
Scrubs, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and some episodes of Harvey Birdman:
Attorney at Law. I swear I need a stand or something, because trying to
rest this thing on my coat or holding it for longer than half an hour
is annoying and painful!
Arriving in NYC around 11am we all decided
that we were very hungry. Knowing that we couldn't check in to around
1pm all of us got something to eat and walked around and shopped a bit.
It didn't take us long to use up those 2 hours, shopping and what not;
also a part of that was taking the metro a couple times and figuring
out where we were. Finally we checked in, tired and worn out from
holding the luggage. I didn't have much to worry about because all I
had was a backpack holding what I needed to last me another day. I held
Denise's small luggage case as well, just to be nice.
We were able to
check in early and leave our stuff in the room, thankfully. They wanted
to shop, I didn't really care. I was just taking it all in, the frantic
atmosphere you call New York City . We
ended up spending 2 hours in this store called H&M. Denise and
the girls went nuts on how much stuff was there. Owura and I after
about half an hour were done, so we ended up standing and waiting for
over an hour, waiting on what we should of known what was going to
happen. After that all of us went walkin down the Manhattan streets window shopping
and browsing the occasional shops.

We were smart and
split up by gender, stayed local though, as we all had cell phones but
it wasn't wise to get too far apart considering what city we were in,
and how big it was. The girls went about they're way towards the
typical shoe and perfume stores, Owura and I went about the electronic
stores and some that had some cool 3 piece suits.
Around 8pm we
decided that was enough shopping for now, went and grab a bite to eat
and headed back to the hotel. Everybody was extremely tired; also
considering Owura worked the previous night. He fell asleep as soon as
we got in. we all took somewhat of a nap and at around midnight Mulala
and Kaylene wanted to go back out, maybe to a club. Our justification
was that we were hungry and in result decided to go out.
We went right across the street and got some grub, Italian
style, pizza and such. After getting full everybody decided on wanting
to go to Times Square to check it out. Let
me remind you that it was freezing that night, and was windy to say the
least. Denise did not feel like going back out again and wanted to
catch some Zs. I wanted to chill with her and didn't want to leave her
behind so I decided to stay with her while everybody else went
out.
They got back around 2am I think. Meanwhile Denise and I were
watchin the late night show with jay leno, funny stuff. Owura told me
that it was, freezing and very windy; no surprise. We all wake up around 10:30am and
decide we need to get ready and pack our stuff, considering check out
is at noon. We do so and head out, finding out we can rent some storage
space for our belongings while we do some more sight seeing before
leaving the city. We do that, at 4 dollars a bag, no biggie.
Getting breakfast was interesting; of course as soon as we got
out of the hotel we all decided that we needed some consumption of the
edible kind. Denise wanted breakfast food really bad, so we check out
this place which is inside the hotel, and ending up leaving because of
the prices, $18 for an omelet! $16 for a steakburger! So after some
debate all of us decide to go back to the Italian place to get some
general stuffins. I feel sorry for Denise but what ya gonna do when you
don't have that much time, considering Kaylene wanted to go to the
Bronx, Denise wanted to go to
central park, and everybody else wanted to shop more. And we had to get
back to the bus by 5pm.

Us, full, decide on
what to do next. Mulala started to get a headache so we all followed
her over to target and she proceeded into the store for some Advil
while we waited at the front lobby. Almost 30 min later we started to
get worried, and decided to search for her, considering we couldn't get
a hold of her on her cell. This store, which is 3 stories, has the
2nd and 3rd levels
beneath the ground level. As we got to the third level (2 levels below
the ground) we started to understand why the we couldn't get a hold of
her. Searching for her and to no avail, we start calling her again, and
find out she is at the 1st level waiting on us.
All of us meet up again and all is well!
Central park .
Mulala didn't want to go, and she knew the area well, so we decided
that it was cool to split up. She went off shopping and the rest of us
went to central park to go do some site seeing. Denise, being her idea
in the first place, wanted to go on the horse and carriage really bad.
But we had 2 choices, horse and carriage that was a 15min long ride, or
a bike cart thing which had two seats in the back for some tour that
would showcase the entire park. Time for that ride? 45 min. they both
were priced at the same which was $40 for 2 people.
The tour was
nice, and the park beautiful, although it was freezing!!!! We learned
about how over 250 movies were shot there. Plus the tour guide pointed
out at least 20 different penthouses and which models and/or actors
have lived/are living there. This one penthouse (condo at the top of a
building with deck) went for 9.8 million back in 1993. Crazy!!! As the
tour ended we realized how cold we actually were. I couldn't feel my
feet and nose, and everybody else was practically felt the same way.
All we wanted to do was get inside somewhere, but due to time
constraints, we boarded the subway as quick as possible and headed back
downtown back to the hotel.

We met up with Mulala back at the
hotel, gathered our things and proceeded back towards the subway to
head for the bus terminal a couple stops down. We hesitated on getting
some food and going to the restroom for a bit, and then decided not to
and just rushed to the bus terminal. We had 10min to spare when we
arrived, just enough time to browse the food stand and go to the
restroom. We boarded the bus at 5pm exactly.
The bus ride
home had a movie playin; it was called "Hoot". After that Denise and I
went Ipod video crazy for about another 3 hours; having mostly a
"Scrubs" marathon. Good times.
Arriving back in DC around 9:30pm we headed for the metro,
and got back into Vienna around 10:00pm, then
back to the Manassas parking lot after dropping Mulala off around
10:30pm, everybody said there goodbyes and off we go, Denise and I, to
my house, 11:30 it was when we traded gifts and she headed out, tired,
but enable to make it home, which she did, according to the call when
she got there. She had
another hour to drive considering she lived in Pennsylvania .
It was fun let me
tell ya, and I want to go back to NYC,
just as long as it's warmer than the last! If you're interested in
going with us next time then just let me
know!
